FIFA President Infantino under close scrutiny before the UEFA congress

In Brussels, as part of the annual UEFA congress, FIFA President Gianni Infantino is scheduled to speak, amid increasing tensions with European football associations regarding governance and political issues.

Among the key topics being discussed is the possibility of Russian teams returning to international tournaments. Infantino had previously stated that the suspension could be reconsidered, at least for youth teams. However, the majority of UEFA members are categorically against this, pointing out that the situation has remained unchanged since the invasion in 2022.

Additionally, European federations express concern over Infantino's close ties with former U.S. President Donald Trump, especially in light of the U.S. preparations to host the World Cup. Although discussions about a boycott have quieted down, distrust towards FIFA leadership continues to exist.

While the congress is not expected to lead to any official decisions, it will reflect the strained relations between FIFA and UEFA.
