On the eve of the vote, the Florida House of Representatives, controlled by Republicans, approved a proposal to rename Palm Beach International Airport in honor of Donald Trump. This was reported by The Palm Beach Post.

Meg Weinberger, a representative from Palm Beach County and co-author of the bill, noted that the president deserves such a mark of respect as he lives only five miles from the airport. Republican Kim Kendall from St. Augustine, who has experience as an air traffic controller, added that the decision to rename the airport is justified due to the investments made by the Trump administration in modernizing airport infrastructure last year. The initiative was also supported by representative from Stuart, John Snyder, who stated that after the passage of this bill, the airport "will become great".

Weinberger clarified that lawmakers did not work with Trump's company in developing the initiative, and the president's family agreed to waive rights to use his name in relation to the airport.

According to the Senate budget bill, $2.75 million is planned for updating signs and other infrastructure at West Palm Beach Airport, which serves about 8.6 million passengers a year.

Democrats, for their part, propose to postpone the renaming until the end of Trump's presidential term, citing his past scandals, including two impeachments and 34 indictments in New York related to business document falsification. However, the opposition's opinion did not significantly influence the decision of the Florida House of Representatives.
