The mayor emphasized that the launch of this plant represents an important step in addressing environmental issues. Alongside waste processing, Bishkek is significantly increasing its greening efforts: in 2026, it is planned to plant 50,000 trees, which is three times the previous figures. Currently, seedlings are already arriving in the capital, where they are being adapted in nurseries to enhance their survival rate.
During the meeting, two key issues were discussed — smog and high air dust levels. The mayor stressed that the Environmental Council is open to criticism and constructive proposals. All ideas voiced by participants will be forwarded to the relevant authorities for further consideration. This event was organized jointly by the Bishkek City Hall and the Development Policy Institute.
It should be noted that the presented plant is the first eco-technological facility of its kind in Central Asia. The project was implemented by the Chinese company JunXin with an investment of 95 million dollars. The plant operates on the principle of "energy from waste," processing up to 1,200 tons of garbage per day and producing about 30 MW of electricity. The high-temperature incineration technology allows for the elimination of long-term accumulations in landfills, which have been sources of toxic smoke and spontaneous combustion for decades, while the improved cleaning system ensures the absence of harmful emissions into the atmosphere.
