Kazakhstan will allocate 2.2 million dollars for monitoring and protecting the Caspian Sea

To save the Caspian Sea, 1.1 billion tenge (about 2.2 million dollars) has been allocated according to a decree signed by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov. These funds will be directed towards important environmental initiatives.

The main recipient of the financial assistance will be the Kazakh Research Institute of the Caspian Sea. The allocated money will be used to modernize the institute: plans include acquiring new equipment for monitoring marine conditions and creating specialized laboratories in hydrobiology and hydrochemistry. This will allow scientists to conduct comprehensive research in open waters, tracking changes in the biological and meteorological environment.

Against the backdrop of a sharp decrease in the water level of the Caspian Sea, the issue of its preservation has become particularly urgent. Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highlighted this problem in his address to the UN as a "global warning signal" and warned of a potential ecological disaster.

As a systematic measure to address this issue, Kazakhstan plans to establish a Water Problems Analysis Center in Astana under the auspices of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. A major environmental summit is also scheduled to take place in the capital in April 2026, dedicated to the protection of the Caspian Sea.
