EU Sanctions Special Representative Visits Kyrgyzstan. Banking Operations Discussed Again
The European Union does not rule out the possibility of imposing restrictions on the export of certain goods to Kyrgyzstan if facts of re-export to Russia are discovered.
According to an EU representative, the union respects Kyrgyzstan's independence and is aware of its close ties with Russia. "We cannot interfere in your affairs, but we hope that the Kyrgyz authorities will take our warnings into account. The measures being applied concern the entire Central Asian region," O'Sullivan noted.
Earlier, the European Union proposed sanctions against two Kyrgyz banks that are already under similar measures from the USA and the UK. These measures are part of the 20th package of EU sanctions adopted in response to the conflict in Ukraine.
It is also worth noting that EU countries recently approved the 19th package of sanctions against Russia, concerning banks, crypto exchanges, and their structures in other countries, including India and China. This list includes 22 individuals and 45 organizations from Russia, Hong Kong, China, India, Thailand, and Kyrgyzstan. Among those sanctioned are the "Tolubay" bank and the "Eurasian Savings Bank." The "Keremet" and "Capital" banks are also already under sanctions from the USA and the UK. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan emphasized that the republic strictly adheres to international obligations and seeks an open dialogue with partners in the EU to prevent possible risks associated with circumventing sanctions. The idea of creating a working group to address these issues was proposed.
