Previously, a team of lawyers providing Temirov with free legal assistance prepared a complaint to the UN committee. This document, consisting of 47 pages and over 100 points, contains allegations of violations of the journalist's international rights.
The complaint addresses issues related to the right to a fair trial, the right to citizenship, freedom from arbitrary detention, and the right to freedom of expression.
It is worth recalling that on January 22, 2022, Bolot Temirov was arrested on charges of illegal manufacturing and possession of drugs. This occurred on the eve of his publication of an investigation into the "Tashiev clan." Subsequently, on April 20, three more criminal cases were initiated against him concerning illegal acquisition of Kyrgyz citizenship and illegal border crossing.
In September 2022, the Sverdlov District Court of Bishkek acquitted Temirov of the charge of "Possession of narcotic substances without intent to sell" and in the case of illegal border crossing. However, he was found guilty of document forgery but was not punished due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.
At the appeal on November 23, 2022, the Bishkek City Court upheld the decision of the first instance. Nevertheless, the court ordered the deportation of Temirov, who holds both Kyrgyz and Russian citizenship, as an additional measure of punishment for document forgery. The execution of the decision took place immediately; Temirov was forcibly removed from the courtroom, taken to the airport, and sent to Moscow.
Currently, Bolot Temirov continues his journalistic activities abroad.
