Kyrgyzstan Does Not Intend to Sue the EU Over Sanctions. The Cabinet Commented on the FT Publication
Earlier, the article reported that Kyrgyzstan might challenge EU sanctions that could be related to the alleged re-export of goods to Russia. In particular, it mentioned the words of Daniyar Amangeldiev, the first deputy chairman of the cabinet, regarding the possibility of going to court in the event of restrictions being imposed.
According to FT data, the European Commission is considering introducing a ban on the sale of certain dual-use goods to Kyrgyzstan, including machinery and electronics that could be used in the production of weapons and drones. There is an opinion in Brussels that some of this production may be re-exported to Russia.
The government noted that Amangeldiev's discussion was only about a theoretical scenario, and Kyrgyzstan's position does not include lawsuits against the EU.
“The Government of the Kyrgyz Republic does not intend and does not plan to initiate any legal proceedings against the European Union,” the official statement emphasizes.
The cabinet also noted that the republic acts within the framework of its legislation, international obligations, and norms of international law, and that issues of export control and compliance with sanctions should be resolved through dialogue with partners.
“Legal and confrontational steps are not part of our strategy,” they added.
Furthermore, the cabinet confirmed its commitment to constructive cooperation with the EU and emphasized that all emerging issues should be resolved through legal and diplomatic mechanisms.
In an interview with FT, Amangeldiev also mentioned that Kyrgyzstan is taking measures to comply with sanctions but noted that the European Union has not provided clear mechanisms for confirming this compliance. He added that the increase in imports from the EU is related to the implementation of large infrastructure projects, including the construction of hydroelectric power stations.
“It is necessary to have clear rules to follow. If the rules are not formulated, how can we comply with them?” he stated.
