The EU Commissioner for Economy reacted to Trump's words
Against the backdrop of rising energy prices due to the conflict in Iran, the European Union expressed strong opposition to easing sanctions on oil from Russia. Valdis Dombrovskis, the EU Commissioner for Economy, stated on March 10 in Brussels: "We must continue to exert maximum pressure on Russia."
He noted that easing oil sanctions could be "counterproductive" and would contribute to "strengthening Russia's military power." "It is extremely important to maintain strict control over the prices of Russian oil," he added.
These comments were a response to recent statements by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding intentions to suspend some of the previously imposed restrictions on oil exports from Russia, which he voiced after a conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
It should be noted that the rise in energy prices in global markets, caused by the conflict in the Middle East, could negatively impact the economies of countries such as the EU, China, and India.
