"This funding could have provided for the construction of 14 large schools."
The Ministry of Construction has suspended the implementation of the philharmonic project in Manas, which costs nearly 7 billion soms, announced the head of the ministry, Nurdana Oruntaev.
He noted that Bishkek has one of the largest concert halls in the country, accommodating 1,100 spectators, where events are regularly held. However, even with such capacity, this facility has not been able to become self-sustaining. In Manas, it was planned to create a philharmonic hall for 3,200 seats, which is three times larger, and its total area was supposed to be 57,000 square meters, with a budget of 6.8 billion soms.
Oruntaev emphasized that this amount is significant for the state budget and could cover the costs of building 14 large schools.
Despite the halt of this large project, the minister assured that Manas will not be left without a cultural center — a new concert venue of smaller size will be built in the city.
