The opening of "Francophonie - 2026" took place in Bishkek, dedicated this year to the theme "Women and Francophonie." The festival began with a performance by French pianist Christine Fonglupt, who flew in from Paris especially for the event.

High-ranking guests attended the event, including the Ambassador of France to Kyrgyzstan Nicolas Fay, the Ambassador of the European Union Remi Duflo, the Ambassador of Switzerland Siroko Messerli, the Deputy Minister of Culture, Information, Sports, and Youth Policy of the Kyrgyz Republic Askar Madaminov, as well as the President of the French Alliance in Bishkek Guzel Ishenova.

Nicolas Fay, opening the evening, emphasized the importance of Francophonie as a cultural phenomenon:

- It is a great honor for us to open "Francophonie - 2026" this spring. Francophonie is not just a concept but a reality that connects about 400 million people who speak French, making it the fourth most spoken language in the world.

He noted the growing interest in learning the French language:

- It is the second most popular foreign language, studied by about 170 million people. It is especially pleasing that among them are the youth of Kyrgyzstan, schoolchildren, and students who are here with us today.

Fay expressed gratitude to the teachers:

- Thanks to you, the French language remains alive and relevant.

Speaking about this year's theme, he added:

- This year we emphasize the role of women in art, society, and shaping the future.

- Allow me to remind you of the famous lines: "Will we never be able to drop anchor for at least one day?" These words reflect the desire to pause and realize what is happening.

He continued:

- In this context, it is important to maintain a dialogue between cultures. Francophonie, like the European project, seeks to unite different cultures, creating a space for communication.

Duflo emphasized the importance of openness:

- In the face of growing isolation, it is important to maintain interest and respect for differences, as well as to be open to dialogue.

The Ambassador of Switzerland Siroko Messerli noted the symbolism of this year:

- For Switzerland, 2026 is special, as we joined the International Organization of Francophonie 30 years ago.

He emphasized the importance of this cooperation:

- For us, Francophonie is not just a language but a space for cultural, scientific, and political exchange.

According to him, Francophonie unites more than 80 countries:

- It is a dynamic community based on the values of diversity and dialogue.

He also spoke about Switzerland's cultural events:

- This year we will offer a tasting of Swiss wines, a fashion show, and musical events, as culture is the best way to communicate.

The Deputy Minister of Culture of the Kyrgyz Republic Askar Madaminov emphasized the significance of the festival:

- I congratulate everyone on the opening of Francophonie. This festival unites peoples through culture and shared values.

He noted the role of art:

- Such events strengthen international ties and cultural cooperation.

Commenting on the concert, he said:

- It is symbolic that the opening begins with music, which is understood by all without translation.

Christine Fonglupt's performance became an important part of the program:

- This concert provides our audience with the opportunity to touch the high art of Europe.

He added:

- We are glad that such events take place not only in Bishkek but also in Osh.

Guzel Ishenova, President of the French Alliance in Bishkek, focused on this year's theme:

- This year, Francophonie is dedicated to women who balance career and family while remaining a source of inspiration.

She invited Kyrgyzstanis to learn the language:

- The doors of the French Alliance are always open. The French language is the language of culture and opportunities.

The highlight of the evening was Christine Fonglupt's performance, a renowned pianist and teacher, who presented a program dedicated to French classical music.

Her performance was characterized by emotionality and attention to detail, and the concert took place in a full hall, warmly received by the audience, setting a high artistic standard for the entire festival.

Francophonie-2026 will continue in Bishkek and Osh with a series of cultural and educational events uniting different countries and cultures.
