The Moldovan parliament has decided to denounce the main agreements with the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), paving the way for the country's exit from this organization.

According to "Interfax," 60 out of 101 deputies voted for the bills. Opposition deputies from the Communist Party and the Socialist Party expressed their protest, claiming that leaving the CIS could lead to serious negative consequences for Moldova's economy.

After the laws are approved, they must be signed by the country's president. Then, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will send all necessary documents to the CIS Executive Committee. The exit process will be completed one year after that.

The Moldovan authorities first announced their intention to leave the CIS in December 2023, following a statement by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who noted that Moldova's participation in the CIS "does not have much significance": "They do as they wish."
