WAKE An atoll consisting of 3 islands (Wake, Wilkes, and Peale) in the central part of the Pacific Ocean. Area - 7.7 km². Population - approx. 200 people (2005). It has been owned by the USA since 1899. The islands have an airfield for jet aircraft and facilities for missile testing.
