Based on data from the National Statistical Committee, by the beginning of 2025, the total area of swamps in Kyrgyzstan will amount to 5,957 thousand hectares.

The Chui region ranks first in the number of swamps, covering 3,235 thousand hectares. At the same time, the Batken region has the smallest area of marshy lands — only 25 thousand hectares.

Note: The Chui region is characterized by an abundance of swamps due to the features of its relief, the close occurrence of groundwater, and the presence of large rivers with slow currents, among which the most significant is the Chu River.

The Batken region lacks swamps, which is explained by the mountainous terrain, the ruggedness of the landscape, and short rivers with fast currents.
