On Wednesday, the press service of the government of Kazakhstan announced the development of new bills by the Ministry of Culture and Information aimed at restricting youth access to social networks.

In an official statement published on the Telegram channel of the cabinet of ministers, it was noted that these initiatives include a proposed ban on registration in social networks for users under the age of 16.

The laws have already undergone expert evaluation and are now in the public discussion stage. In collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, mechanisms for verifying the age of social media users, as well as measures of accountability for violations, are planned to be developed.

The Minister of Culture and Information, Aida Balayeva, emphasized the need to enhance media literacy among the population and support independent media. She pointed to ongoing work through the journalism development commission and other initiatives in this area.

The ministry also plans to address issues related to the regulation of advertising revenue distribution between online platforms and media, as well as the possibilities for partially lifting restrictions on the advertising of certain goods.
