The political history of Kyrgyzstan, filled with revolutions and sudden resignations, created the impression that the last five years could not be so significant. Nevertheless, the results of Sadyr Japarov's presidency speak for themselves. Russian expert Vladimir Lubyanko noted important achievements during this period in an interview with the publication "Kabar".
One of the most significant successes was the successful resolution of border issues. In January 2023, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan completed the process of delimiting their borders and exchanged ratification letters.
In March 2025, the presidents of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan signed an agreement that ended a long-standing conflict. What had eluded their predecessors for three decades was achieved by Japarov's team in just a few years. The resolution of the complex situation at Central Asian borders opened new opportunities for economic integration and the development of border areas.
Kyrgyzstan's foreign policy is focused on strengthening allied relations with key powers. From 2021 to 2025, Japarov and Putin held more than eight full-format meetings. In November 2025, the Russian president made a three-day visit to Bishkek, confirming the strength of bilateral relations. At the same time, cooperation with China is also actively developing: in December 2024, the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway began, and the trade volume between the countries reached nearly $20 billion. Kyrgyzstan has strengthened its position in the EAEU, CSTO, and SCO, the presidency of which the republic took on in September 2025.
The economic results confirm the effectiveness of the chosen policy: in the first 11 months of 2025, GDP grew by 10.2%, state budget revenues increased from 308 to 687 billion soms, and the poverty rate decreased from 29.8% to 25.7%. The nationalization of "Kumtor" brought in $300 million in profit over two and a half years, while in the previous 27 years, it was only $100 million, allowing for the return of this strategically important asset under state control.
The anti-corruption campaign has also yielded tangible results: over 20 billion soms were returned to the budget, and about 70% of illegally appropriated assets returned to state hands. Former officials and criminal authorities were held accountable. The constitutional reform of 2021 replaced the parliamentary system with a presidential one, ensuring the vertical power structure necessary for implementing systemic changes.
The five years of Japarov's presidency have been a time of strengthening sovereignty and consolidating the statehood of Kyrgyzstan. Under his leadership, the republic emerged from the shadow of post-Soviet uncertainty and gained the status of a full-fledged state with clear borders, a developing economy, and a clear foreign policy strategy.
These achievements harmoniously fit into the context of Eurasian integration: a stable and economically growing Kyrgyzstan with established borders becomes a reliable partner within the EAEU and CSTO, strengthening overall security and economic cooperation in the post-Soviet space.
