Early Years and Education
Sadyr Nurgozhoevich Japarov was born on December 6, 1968, in Keng-Suu village, Issyk-Kul region of the Kyrgyz Republic.
In 2006, he graduated from the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University, obtaining higher education.
Work Experience
Sadyr Japarov began his work activity in the late 1980s. From 1986 to 1987, he worked at the collective farm "Santashe".
From 1987 to 1989, he served in the Soviet Army. After demobilization, from 1989 to 1995, he worked again at the collective farm "Santashe".
In 1996, he began working in the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic. During this period, he also held the position of deputy chairman of the peasant farm "Soltonkul".
Business Career
From 2000 to 2002, Sadyr Japarov served as the general director of LLC "Guzel-MKHAAD".
From 2002 to 2005, he worked as the general director of LLC "Nurneftegaz".
Political Career
He began his political activity in the mid-2000s.
From 2005 to 2007, he was a deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic.
From 2007 to 2009, he served as an advisor to the president of Kyrgyzstan.
In 2008-2009, he worked as a commissioner of the National Agency of the Kyrgyz Republic for the Prevention of Corruption.
From 2009 to 2010, he headed the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption under the State Personnel Service of the Kyrgyz Republic.
From 2010 to 2013, he was re-elected as a deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Criminal Case and Imprisonment
On March 25, 2017, Sadyr Japarov was detained at the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border upon his arrival in Kyrgyzstan. A criminal case was initiated against him on several articles of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
On August 2, 2017, the Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek sentenced him to 11 years and 6 months in a high-security colony for hostage-taking.
The court found that on October 7, 2013, in Karakol, during a rally organized by Japarov, his supporters forcibly placed the then-government's authorized representative in the Issyk-Kul region, Emil Kaptagaev, into a car.
The defense's petitions for amnesty and mitigation of the sentence were rejected. Subsequently, the Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic reduced the sentence to 10 years of imprisonment.
Personal Losses
During his time in prison, Sadyr Japarov experienced a number of heavy personal losses.
In September 2017, his father, Nurgozo Mustali uulu, passed away.
In March 2019, his mother, Kadicha Japarova, died.
On August 27, 2019, his son, Dastan, was killed in a traffic accident.
Release and Return to Politics
In the night of October 6, 2020, amid mass protests in the country, demonstrators seized the parliament building. After that, Sadyr Japarov and several other politicians were released from prison.
On October 10, 2020, the deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh officially approved his candidacy for the post of Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Presidential Elections
In the early presidential elections of the Kyrgyz Republic, held on January 10, 2021, Sadyr Japarov won, receiving 79.2% of the votes of the voters who participated in the voting.
