Obituary published by the mayor's office of the southern capital
Muканбек Калмаматович Алыкулов, an outstanding figure in the field of public service and energy, as well as the former mayor of the city of Osh, passed away at the age of 80. This was reported by the press service of the mayor's office.
Alykulov was born in 1945 in the village of Soviet, located in the Bazar-Korgon district of the Jalal-Abad region. He graduated from the Frunze Polytechnic Institute in 1969.
He began his professional career at the Engels Collective Farm and then worked at a mine in the Uzbek SSR. In 1969, he became the chief energy engineer of the Southern Meat and Dairy Trust.
He served in the Soviet Army from 1969 to 1970, after which he joined the Osh Electric Networks Enterprise, where he rose from engineer to manager. From 1980 to 1984, he served as an instructor at the Osh Regional Committee of the Communist Party of the Kyrgyz SSR, and then, from 1984 to 1987, he headed the trade union of workers in power stations and the electrical engineering industry.
Alykulov was the director of the Osh Electric Networks Enterprise from 1987 to 1995, and from 1995 to 1996, he led the local self-government bodies in Osh. After that, he again became the head of the Osh Electric Networks.
He made a significant contribution to the development of the energy sector in Kyrgyzstan, for which he was awarded various state honors and was respected among the people. Mukambek Alykulov was also a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Kyrgyz SSR of the 12th convocation and a deputy of the Assembly of People's Representatives of the Jogorku Kenesh of the 1st convocation.
