The exercises will last until October 24

As part of President Sadyr Japarov's decree, civil defense exercises have begun and will continue until October 24.

According to the press service of the mayor's office, the purpose of this event is to assess the readiness of management bodies and civil defense services to act in the event of earthquakes and other emergencies. The organizer of the exercises is the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic.

At the meeting of the headquarters, Bishkek Mayor Aibek Junushaliev emphasized the need for systematic preparation for natural disasters and pointed out the implementation of a set of preventive measures in the capital.

“Works have been carried out to clear the riverbeds of the Alamedin and Ala-Archa rivers, bank protection measures are being implemented, and retaining walls have been erected. These actions have helped to avoid flooding in 2025, which occurred in the previous year,” the mayor emphasized.

The exercises involve Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Urmatbek Shamyrkanov, heads of city civil defense services, and heads of four districts of the capital. Representatives from all regions of the country also joined the event via video conference.
