“Renaming may negatively affect historical memory”
The Turdakun Usubaliev Foundation opposed the elders' proposal to rename Kochkor in his honor.
Those close to the former head of the republic emphasized that Turdakun Usubaliev always placed great importance on preserving the historical names of the country's settlements.
“Changing the name of the village of Kochkor will primarily affect the historical memory of the place where T. Usubaliev was born and raised, which may lead to the erasure of his unique significance for both the local residents and all of Kyrgyzstan. The name Kochkor has deep historical roots and represents a value for its inhabitants. Renaming may have a negative impact on the perception of the historical memory of the Hero of the Kyrgyz Republic Turdakun Usubaliev,” the foundation's statement said.
It was previously reported that the elders of the district proposed to change the name of Kochkor in honor of Turdakun Usubaliev.
