Marlen Mamataliyev: New cars and motorcycles do not mean that a person is wealthy

The deputy initiated a discussion on revising the poverty criteria

Deputy Marlen Mamataliyev proposed to change the existing poverty criteria in Kyrgyzstan. He voiced his proposal during a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Edil Baisalov and other deputies.

According to Mamataliyev, many families cannot qualify for benefits due to a number of requirements, such as owning a car that is over 20 years old or a motorcycle. However, newer models of vehicles are becoming affordable for many low-income individuals.

The deputy head of the cabinet noted that the recommendations of the deputy will be taken into account during the complete revision of the poverty criteria.

It is important to note that in Kyrgyzstan, citizens with annual incomes below 65,000 soms are considered to be living below the poverty line.

Those who earn less than 41,349 soms per year are also considered poor.

Poverty levels are calculated based on the analysis of household budgets, taking into account the minimum necessary consumption of both food and non-food items.
