The candidacy of Jumgalbek Shabdanbekov for the position of Chairman of the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic was approved by the Jogorku Kenesh. This appointment resulted from the president's initiative, who will soon formalize this decision through an official decree. However, the approval process provoked a sharp reaction among the deputies, who did not hide their doubts about the methods used by this agency.
Deputies urged the new head of the GKNB to pay attention to relations with entrepreneurs. In particular, Ismanali Joroev revealed a scheme by which some employees operated, using private auditors to exert pressure on businesses. These audit reports, which were only advisory in nature, became the cause of threats and forced seizures of funds, known as "kusturization." Joroev noted that many of these operatives are currently detained for exceeding their authority.
Dastan Bekeshev asked Shabdanbekov about the upcoming reforms and his readiness to hold an open press conference. He also raised the issue of some well-known GKNB employees referred to as Vaseline and Lizard. Bekeshev raised an important question about whether the criminal cases that were initiated and investigated by these operatives would be reviewed if they are now being held accountable for their actions.
Furthermore, other deputies noted the need to stop the practice of the GKNB taking on the functions of tax and audit authorities. They also called for cleansing the ranks of the agency from those who discredit the civil service.
