Uzbekistan begins selection of the first national astronaut

In Uzbekistan, a nationwide competition has started to select a candidate for participation in a space flight. According to local media, the agency "Uzbekcosmos" has already analyzed international experience in astronaut training and conducting scientific research on the International Space Station (ISS). Following a meeting with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a decision was made to create a special state commission that will handle the selection of candidates and the organization of the flight.

Candidates will be subjected to strict requirements regarding their physical condition, scientific training, and knowledge of foreign languages. It is expected that the first Uzbek astronaut will embark on a short-term mission lasting from 10 to 14 days. Additionally, work is underway on the first national scientific satellite "Mirzo Ulughbek," with its launch scheduled for 2028. Students from Uzbekistan studying at a Japanese technological institute are participating in the development of the satellite.
