Janar Akayev, the new mayor of the city, noted that his predecessor laid the foundations for "good projects".



According to reports on Kyrgyz social media, the former mayor of Osh, Jenishbek Toktorbaev, left behind debt obligations amounting to 12 billion soms in the city budget. This has drawn criticism towards his administration.


The new mayor, Janar Akayev, commenting on the situation, did not deny the information about the debts but emphasized that Toktorbaev initiated "good projects" that will be continued in the future.


Akayev also added that "we currently have strong vice-mayors" and that work in Osh will continue regardless of the debts. "We will turn to the republican budget to find out if we have any debts," he noted.


At today's meeting of the city council, the mayor announced that the Accounts Chamber has begun an audit of the city budget.


During the meeting, Osh city council member Bekbolot Arzibaev raised the issue of the debt, stating that as of the end of last year, the city's debt amounted to about 1.5 billion soms.


As for the budget for 2026, it will amount to 5 billion 205 million soms, which is 1.8 billion soms more compared to the previous year.
