Edil Baisalov expressed his initiative at the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women.
At the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York, the Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Edil Baisalov, stated the necessity of electing a woman to the position of UN Secretary-General.
He noted that Kyrgyzstan actively supports the ideas of gender equality, the protection of the rights of women and girls, and fulfills its international obligations as outlined in the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
According to Baisalov, "Kyrgyzstan is pursuing a consistent policy aimed at strengthening the rule of law, expanding economic opportunities for women, and combating violence against them, adhering to the principle of zero tolerance for such crimes. We are also continuing to improve legislation and protection mechanisms."
He added that "the world cannot seriously discuss women's rights while ignoring the suffering of those in conflict zones. The protection of women's rights must become an important part of international security. The United Nations must set an example in matters of equality. After nearly eighty years of the UN's existence, it is time, and it has long been overdue, for a woman to lead the organization as Secretary-General," emphasized the Deputy Prime Minister.
