During a plenary session of the Jogorku Kenesh on March 18, 2026, Deputy Dastanbek Jumabekov asked whether heirs can receive bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies from deceased relatives.

At the meeting, a draft law "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Kyrgyz Republic Regarding the Inheritance of Electronic Money" was discussed, which represents the first attempt to regulate this area.

Deputy Chairman of the National Bank Kanat Temirov explained that according to this draft law, inheritance is only possible for electronic money held in electronic wallets and denominated in soms—the national currency of the country.

Dastanbek Jumabekov emphasized that the text of the law should clearly state that it pertains only to national soms, excluding any forms of cryptocurrency, such as bitcoins and other digital assets.

In his opinion, the absence of such clarification could lead to ambiguous interpretations of the norms and legal uncertainties in the inheritance of crypto assets.
