The solemn opening ceremony of the honorary consulate of Montenegro in Kyrgyzstan took place in Bishkek, marking a significant event for strengthening Kyrgyz-Montenegrin relations. This is not just an expansion of diplomatic representation, but a step towards closer interaction, emphasizing the economy, investments, and direct contacts between the two states.
The opening of the consulate occurred during the visit of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, Ervin Ibrahimović, which also indicates Montenegro's growing interest in Central Asia and, in particular, Kyrgyzstan. The new structure is intended to become a platform for diplomatic initiatives supported by real projects and business ties.
The event was attended by representatives of various state and international organizations, the diplomatic corps, and the business community of Kyrgyzstan.
According to diplomats, the opening of this honorary consulate underscores the mutual desire of both sides to activate cooperation and create sustainable mechanisms for interaction. It is anticipated that the consulate will become an important tool for developing trade and economic ties, attracting investments, and strengthening humanitarian contacts.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Meder Abakirov, noted in his speech that the opening of the consulate is of great significance for bilateral relations:
- This event is an important signal of our mutual interest in deepening cooperation. We see the opening of the Honorary Consulate of Montenegro in Bishkek as a new stage in the development of ties between our countries, especially in the areas of economy, investments, and humanitarian interaction. I am confident that the consulate will become an effective platform for implementing joint initiatives and expanding cooperation.
Ervin Ibrahimović also emphasized the importance of the consulate and its role in future cooperation:
- It is a great pleasure for me to welcome you to this event dedicated to the opening of the Honorary Consulate of Montenegro in Kyrgyzstan, which will be headed by Mr. Beknazar Asanov. Despite our geographical distance, we demonstrate a mutual desire for rapprochement, which is an important step in forming strategic ties between our peoples.
- This consulate in Bishkek holds special significance as it has become our first official representation in Kyrgyzstan. It opens new opportunities for interaction with Central Asia, which we consider an important region for international cooperation.
- Montenegro is a European country with clear plans for the future. We are confidently moving towards EU membership while remaining a reliable NATO ally and open to expanding partnership ties. Our geographical position and access to the Adriatic Sea create conditions for cooperation in areas such as tourism, energy, agriculture, and investments.
Modern diplomacy is built not only on official meetings but also on human connections, and here honorary consuls play an important role, opening new opportunities for bringing our countries closer together.
Beknazar Asanov, representing the interests of Montenegro in Kyrgyzstan, outlined the key areas of his work, emphasizing economic interaction:
- I represent the business community and understand how important it is to establish direct connections between entrepreneurs. We will focus on developing economic relations between Kyrgyzstan and Montenegro.
Our plans include organizing business forums jointly with the chambers of commerce and industry of both countries, which will allow entrepreneurs to find new opportunities for cooperation and discuss joint projects.
There is currently interest from investors in various sectors such as hydropower, industry, and processing. We will work on attracting investments both to Kyrgyzstan and to Montenegro.
In addition, we plan to consider the possibility of launching direct air communication, which will be an important step for developing tourism and simplifying business contacts between our countries.
The opening of the Honorary Consulate in Bishkek is seen as a transition from theoretical intentions to concrete actions, and it is expected that this structure will become a sustainable platform for further development of cooperation and investments between Kyrgyzstan and Montenegro," Asanov concluded.
