The State Cabinet of Ministers has instructed the State Agency for State Property Management and the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports, and Youth Policy to transfer the building of the 'Chatyr-Kul' cinema in Bishkek, including a land plot of 40 acres, to the municipal ownership of the capital.
According to the decree, a social institution intended for children and the elderly is planned to be built on the site of the former cinema. This decision aims to improve citizens' access to social services.
A cultural center will be built on the site of the 'Chatyr-Kul' cinema
The 'Chatyr-Kul' cinema, built in 1967, was nationalized in 2010 and transferred to the management of the state youth theater 'Uchur'. However, no major repairs were carried out, and the theater used the building without significant changes.
Throughout the 2010s, disputes arose around this property regarding ownership rights. The former owner claimed that he was deprived of his property without compensation and demanded approximately 3 million soms. Legal disputes dragged on for several years, while the building itself fell into disrepair.
In November 2025, the roof was damaged as a result of a fire. After that, the Bishkek city hall announced its intention to take the property onto its balance sheet.
