In Kazakhstan, the possibility of introducing criminal liability for the leakage of personal data is being considered. This became known thanks to the First Deputy Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, Rostislav Konyashkin, who shared the information at a government meeting, as reported by Tengrinews.kz.

According to Konyashkin, such measures are necessary to ensure the protection of the personal information of Kazakhstan's citizens.

“In order to implement the constitutional rights of citizens to protect their privacy and personal data, we are moving to a policy of 'zero tolerance' for any leaks of digital information. In this regard, we will significantly increase the amounts of administrative fines for non-compliance with security standards — up to 5,000 monthly calculation indicators, which amounts to 21.6 million tenge,” noted Rostislav Konyashkin.

He also added that digital transformation should not threaten the safety of citizens. Any improper handling of personal information should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
