Twelve-dentate Onion
Status: VU. A narrowly endemic species of the Chatkal Ridge.

Description. A perennial herbaceous bulbous plant, geophyte, xeromesophyte. Bulbs are solitary, round, 8-10 (12) mm in diameter, with gray paper-like tunics. Bulbils are solitary, smooth. Stems are 60 - 80 cm tall, 1.5 - 5 mm in diameter, ribbed, covered at the base with leaf sheaths. There are 2 leaves, flat, 2.5 - 6 mm wide, rough-edged. The inflorescence is hemispherical or nearly round, dense, multi-flowered. Flower stalks are 1.5 - 2 cm long, glabrous at the base. The tepals of the star-shaped perianth are pink-purple, with a faintly prominent midrib, narrowly triangular-lanceolate, twisted and bent after flowering. The stamens are 1.5 times shorter than the perianth, bifid, with ciliate bases. The ovary is long-stalked, rough.

Biological features. It flowers and fruits in May - June.

Habitat. Shrub thickets and forest edges in the middle mountain belt.

Limiting factors. Human economic activities: spring cattle grazing, flower collection, bulb digging.

Existing conservation measures. Protected in the Sary-Chelek Nature Reserve.

Status: VU. It is a narrowly endemic species of the Chatkal Mountain Range, inhabiting bushes and forest edges in the mid-mountain belt. Flowering and fruiting plants are observed from May to June. Data on population numbers and abundance are absent. Limiting factors include human economic activity such as cattle grazing in spring, collection of flowers and bulbs. The species is protected in the Sary-Chelek Nature Reserve. Recommended measures for preservation include the establishment of special wildlife areas in sites of highest concentration, prohibition of spring grazing, and prohibition of flower and bulb collection, along with monitoring.
