Lily of the Valley, Poppy, Erigeron, Monarda. Rhizomatous perennials wintering in the soil of Kyrgyzstan

May Lily (Convallaria majalis L.).

Has long been used in decorative gardening. Beautiful not only are the fragrant bell-shaped white flowers, but also the green elongated-elliptical leaves, creating a uniform dark green carpet up to 20 cm high in places where sunlight does not penetrate or barely penetrates.

There are varieties with pink and blue flowers.

Propagates by dividing rhizomes immediately after flowering and until late autumn. The plant is undemanding and winter-hardy. For better flowering, organic-mineral fertilizers are applied in winter and before the emergence of sprouts.

Used for cutting and forcing.

Poppy (Papaver L.),

Grows wild in Siberia, the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Far East, and Western Europe.

Most species are ornamental flowering plants. The stems are straight, unbranched, ending with a single flower.

The leaves are feathery, often hairy-bristly.

The most decorative species include:
Eastern poppy (P. orientale L.). Flowers up to 15-20 cm in diameter, bright red, orange, or pink, with large, feathery leaves. Blooms from May 10-12 for 25-30 days;
Naked stem poppy (P. nudicaule L.). Stems are thin, twig-like, up to 40 cm tall, ending with a single medium-sized yellow, orange, or red flower.

Blooms from May 15-20 until autumn;
Bracted poppy (P. bracteatum Lindl.) up to 70 cm tall. Stems are straight and bristly. Flowers are large, up to 15 cm in diameter, blood-red. Blooms from May 20 to mid-June.

Poppy grows well in open sunny places. Propagates by seeds and division of the bush. Seeds are sown in autumn, and rhizomes are divided in early spring.

The genus includes up to 200 annual and perennial species, with occasional shrubs. Leaves are alternate, entire, entire-edged, or toothed. Stems are simple or branched. Inflorescences are baskets, racemes, cymes, or panicles. Most species have purple, blue, violet, or blue flowers, less often pink, yellow, or red. Grows well in open and semi-shaded places.

Propagates by seeds and division of bushes. Seeds are sown in autumn, and bush division is done in spring.

Promising species:
Hybrid Erigeron (E. hybridus hort.). Bush height is 70 cm. Stems are weakly branched. Leaves are sessile, lanceolate, pointed. Baskets, up to 4-5 cm in diameter, are collected in a cyme. Edge flowers are light purple, center flowers are yellow. Blooms from late May for 35-40 days. Cut flowers last in water for 6-7 days;
Beautiful Erigeron (E. speciosus D. C.). Bush height is 60 cm.

Baskets, up to 4 cm in diameter, are collected in a cyme. Edge flowers are blue or lilac, center flowers are yellow;
Semi-double Erigeron (E. semiplensis). Bush height is 70 cm. Edge flowers are dark lilac, center flowers are yellow.

Inflorescence, up to 5 cm in diameter, is collected in a cyme;
Alpine Erigeron (E. alpinus L.). Bush height is 25 cm. Flowers are lilac-pink.

Monarda (Monarda L.).

Native to North America. The stem is straight, four-sided, with opposite, toothed, aromatic mint-scented leaves.
