Water accounting for farmers in Kyrgyzstan is being introduced

At a meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on agricultural policy, water resources, and ecology, the Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Food Industry Bakyt Torobaev presented a report on the preparations for the spring fieldwork.

He reported that currently, there are 498 reservoirs in the republic, which collectively hold 1 billion 757 million cubic meters of water. However, the actual accumulated volume is only 884 million cubic meters, which is 30-35% lower than in the same period last year.

According to plans, by 2026, it is expected to sow 1 million 250 thousand hectares of agricultural land. For the repair and construction of irrigation channels, 12 billion 300 million soms have been allocated from the budget.

As part of the preparations for fieldwork, the cleaning and repair of 776 thousand kilometers of irrigation channels, 657 concrete coverings, 590 hydraulic structures, and 508 water measurement posts are planned. Additionally, 91 pumping stations and 170 pumping units will be put in order, and 46 pumping stations are planned to be updated.

“This year we plan to install about 1,500 electronic meters to account for water supply to farmers, which will allow us to more accurately record the volumes. We also plan to clean 225 collector-drainage systems,” he added.
