Iskhak Masaliev: The alliance between Japarov and Tashiev will remain strong

Five years have passed since Sadyr Japarov came to power, and during this time, not only the agenda but also the structure of power has undergone significant changes. Personal agreements and alliances have begun to play a key role. With the upcoming elections, more people are discussing not only the government's achievements but also potential changes in the relationships between its main figures.

Iskhak Masaliev, a former deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh, analyzes internal political processes in his interview with the BBC. He emphasizes the strength of the alliance between Sadyr Japarov and Kamchybek Tashiev, as well as possible disagreements that could affect the future political cycle. Masaliev highlights that personal trust and a common political course largely determine the stability of the existing power.

“Their connection cannot be compared to the tandem of Almazbek Atambayev and Sooronbay Jeenbekov,” he notes. “The latter came together in the public sphere, while these two politicians united in difficult times and have gone through many important events together. I am confident that they will not part ways and will maintain friendly relations. Perhaps one of them will leave active politics, but there will be no conflicts between them.”

Masaliev also mentions that there are no eternal alliances in politics, and disagreements may arise over time. “However, the foundation of their relationship will remain friendly. At the moment, there are indeed disputes and disagreements between them, but that is normal since they are not relatives. Such situations have occurred before,” he adds.

According to Masaliev, he has experience working with both politicians and understands the situation from the inside. Each of them has found their niche, and there is mutual respect between them, which excludes the possibility of open confrontation.

Interest in the upcoming presidential elections is growing, and many are trying to predict who will become the next president, as well as how Japarov and Tashiev will maintain their positions on the political stage.

In his view, Tashiev is already ready for the elections and may be purposefully moving in that direction. “He has repeatedly stated that he does not aspire to the presidency, but often what a person publicly renounces ultimately becomes relevant for them,” concludes Masaliev.
