He mentioned that the day before, video materials about driver training in driving schools were published on social media. In his opinion, deputies came to parliament to represent the views of the population, and the authorities should take the voice of the people into account.
Suimanov noted: "Are these also populist opinions? Yes, I said at the meeting that 10 months of training is too long. This is the opinion of citizens, and I support it. The president himself said he studied for 6 months at DOSAAF, and many who studied during the Soviet era and did not get into accidents also believe that 10 months is a lot. Some modern young people can master the theory in a month," the deputy added.
According to him, the director of one driving school proposed to shorten the training period to six months, while allowing students to take the exam after three months. If they don't pass, they continue studying.
"We understand that every family has people who have been affected or killed in traffic accidents. But thousands of citizens are talking about the training periods. I did not oppose it; I only suggested shortening the duration. There is no need to exacerbate the dissatisfaction of citizens. If everything were right, no one would express dissatisfaction. I want to emphasize: we should not go beyond ethical boundaries. We have never said that the executive authorities are not smart and do not care about the people. Yes, there are some mistakes, but they need to be corrected," Suimanov noted.
He added that if there were only a year or two left until the elections, one could talk about the populism of deputies trying to earn points.
"But we still have five years ahead, and we are speaking not to appear good. For example, in Tash-Komur, wastewater is being discharged into the Naryn River, and there are many bacteria there! I voiced this and conveyed the appeals of 26,900 citizens. Have I also become a populist? I was elected to parliament to represent the voice of the voters," the deputy concluded.
