Mother with child complained about unsanitary conditions in the "infectious disease hospital." Hospital's response
“Every day in the wards there are worms and ants, and at night there are cockroaches and rats. This poses a threat to the health of children and adults. Such conditions should not exist in an infectious diseases hospital. We ask the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic and the responsible authorities to urgently take measures and conduct sanitation,” the woman wrote.
For comments, the editorial team contacted the Ministry of Health. The department redirected the complaint to the management of the medical institution. They reported the following: “Department No. 15 (old building) of the Republican Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital was put into operation in 1960. Major repairs of the building have not been carried out in the last forty years. We have repeatedly appealed to the Ministry of Health for funding for major repairs of the building. Approval for the major repairs has been received, and the work is scheduled for 2026.”
Due to the high degree of wear and tear of the building structures and engineering communications, as noted by the hospital, maintaining sanitary conditions requires constant preventive measures.
“Every year, a contract is concluded between the Republican Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital and the Bishkek Center for State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance: disinsection and deratization activities are carried out quarterly and regularly. There are reports of completed work. Currently, Department No. 15 is temporarily closed for disinsection, deratization, and disinfection activities,” the medical institution concluded.
