
The discussion of supporting Kyrgyzstan's candidacy in the UN Security Council also became part of the meeting.
During the official visit to Turkey, Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, the chairman of the Jogorku Kenesh, met with the country's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, as reported by the parliament's press service.
The parties discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation, including political, economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres. Turgunbek uulu emphasized that the strategic partnership between Kyrgyzstan and Turkey continues to strengthen and reminded of the upcoming state visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Kyrgyzstan in 2024, which will serve as a basis for signing new agreements.
He also noted the importance of the prompt ratification of the agreements reached and reported that this issue had already been discussed with Numan Kurtulmuş, the chairman of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
Particular attention was paid to economic issues. Turgunbek uulu expressed a desire to increase trade turnover between the countries to 5 billion dollars and called for the activation of joint investment projects, especially in the fields of energy and mining. In this regard, he proposed to extend the visa-free regime from 90 to 180 days and to consider the possibility of using internal passports.
The Kyrgyz side also sought support for its candidacy for non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for the period from 2027 to 2028.
Hakan Fidan, in turn, congratulated Turgunbek uulu on his re-election as Chairman and supported initiatives for investment cooperation. He also confirmed Turkey's readiness to support Kyrgyzstan's candidacy in the UN Security Council and noted that the issue of quotas for labor migrants had been resolved in advance.
The meeting also discussed health issues, and Turgunbek uulu proposed creating favorable conditions for the treatment of Kyrgyz citizens, including cancer patients, in medical institutions in Turkey.
