In an interview with the publication "Kabar," President Sadyr Japarov emphasized that he will not allow the country to be divided into north and south. He describes this division as a result of manipulations by politicians who have used regional disagreements for their own interests for many years. The head of state highlighted that the ongoing personnel reforms and rotations in the regions are aimed at strengthening unity and reducing the influence of clans and regions.
“I will never allow a division between the south and the north. Politicians use such splits when it benefits them, while ordinary people become tools in their games,” he noted.
Japarov recalls how, starting his political career in 2005, he himself witnessed this division: “Half of the government represented the north, the other half the south. In some ministries, such a balance was also maintained. It was bitter to observe.”
He promised himself that if he was destined to become president, he would definitely fight against this problem in Kyrgyzstan.
Since 2021, as the president noted, such divisions have gradually begun to fade into the past: “We conducted rotations of akims, judges, as well as heads of the prosecutor's office, the State Committee for National Security, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.”
According to him, the rotation affected all akims and judges: “In the south, there are no southern akims; all of them are appointed from the north, and vice versa. The same applies to judges. The results are already visible: the level of division has significantly decreased.”
He further expressed hope that, if circumstances allow, they will be able to advance in the issues of айыл окмоту (local government). “Otherwise, local leaders may distribute resources in favor of their relatives. Often, tenders are won by people close to them, and land leases go to their family members. There are quite a few such cases,” the president emphasized.
“We will gradually eliminate these problems, although it will take time, as housing issues also need to be addressed,” he added.
The president also noted that there are many other ways to combat the division between the north and south.
