The GKNB commented on the detentions and checks of employees removed from their positions.

As reported by the press service of the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic (GKNB KR) on February 17, investigations against some former employees of the agency, suspected of abusing their official powers, are being conducted jointly with the Military Prosecutor's Office and the Main Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs under the instruction of President Sadyr Japarov. All actions are being carried out in strict accordance with the legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic and procedural norms. The leadership of the GKNB was timely informed about the progress of the checks, based on the results of which important personnel decisions were made. Those who violated the law were dismissed and removed from the national security agencies, and the case materials were forwarded for legal assessment.

In the agency, it was noted that rumors about a "conflict between interdepartmental structures" are not true and are aimed at undermining trust in the authorities.

“Creating a false image of confrontation between agencies has a destructive nature and is aimed at destabilizing the socio-political situation. We urge citizens and the media to rely only on official sources and to remain calm,” the GKNB KR added.

Events began to unfold on February 10, when Sadyr Japarov signed a decree relieving Kamchybek Tashiev of his duties as Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the GKNB. Following this, there were personnel changes within the GKNB.

In addition, structural reforms were implemented. In particular, the Border Service was removed from the GKNB.

A State Protection Service was also established under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, formed on the basis of the 9th Service of the GKNB. Significant reforms and a return to the core activities of the special services are expected after the appointment of the new head of the agency.
