The changes also concern the procedure for forming the commission members
A draft law has been presented to the Jogorku Kenesh that proposes reducing the members of the Central Election Commission and Referendum Commission.
According to the proposal, the composition of the CEC will be reduced from 12 to 7 members. In addition, the mechanism for forming the commission will also change:
- three members will be appointed at the suggestion of the president;
- four members will be elected by the parliament at their initiative.
The authors of the draft law are confident that this model will achieve a better balance between the various branches of government and prevent the possibility of blocking decisions due to an equal number of votes.
