Macron, Merz, and Starmer threaten Iran with military response

A joint warning to Iran was issued by French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. They expressed their readiness for military action in the event of continued Iranian missile attacks on countries in the Middle East. The statement was published by the German government on March 2, 2026.

The document emphasizes that Iran's missile strikes are "indiscriminate and disproportionate," affecting even states that are not involved in the U.S. and Israel's operations against Tehran. The European leaders underscored their determination to protect their interests and those of their allies in the region.

Amid rising tensions, France decided to move the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle from the Baltic Sea, where it was participating in the "Orion" exercises, to the eastern Mediterranean. This was reported by the BFMTV channel.

According to the newspaper Le Figaro, around 60 vessels under the French flag or owned by French companies have temporarily halted operations in the Persian Gulf. These vessels passed through the Strait of Hormuz and were instructed by naval forces to suspend movement.

Iran's retaliatory measures against the actions of the U.S. and Israel have reportedly affected ten countries in the region. Missile launches and drone attacks have been recorded in Bahrain, Jordan, Iraq, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Saudi Arabia, where American military facilities are located.
