Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel calls on Europe to engage in dialogue with Vladimir Putin
Angela Merkel, the former Chancellor of Germany, expressed the opinion that the European Union should initiate a dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin. She made this statement during the traditional Matthiae-Mahl reception in Hamburg.

In her view, the European Union should take a more active stance and participate in discussions on important global issues, such as the situation in Ukraine, alongside the United States.

“Europe must take its fate into its own hands like never before,” Merkel noted, adding that the EU must act as a united whole both within the union and on the international stage to be taken seriously.
She also emphasized the importance of a diplomatic approach to Moscow, alongside support for Ukraine. Merkel expressed hope that the European Union could act not only as a supporter of Kyiv but also as a diplomatic force capable of facilitating the end of the conflict.

It should be noted that the next round of negotiations between the US, Russia, and Ukraine, which was supposed to take place in Geneva in early March, has been postponed indefinitely. This is due to the escalation of the situation in the Middle East, where the US plays a key role in Operation "Lion's Roar," aimed at overthrowing the Iranian government.
