Mojtaba Khamenei elected Supreme Leader of Iran

According to information from the Iranian agency Fars, Mojtaba Khamenei has become the new Supreme Leader of Iran, who is the son of Ali Khamenei, his predecessor in this position.

The selection of Mojtaba Khamenei was made by the Assembly of Experts of Iran, consisting of 88 high-ranking clergy members empowered to appoint the Supreme Leader.

Mojtaba, who is a mid-level cleric, has close ties with the powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and has long been considered one of the possible successors to his father, who was killed in the attacks on Tehran on February 28.
