China, aiming to strengthen relations with the Global South, has announced unprecedented trade benefits for African countries. This was stated by Wang Yi, a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the country's foreign minister, at a press conference in Beijing on March 8 during the session of the National People's Congress. This decision marks an important step ahead of visits by African leaders to China and in the context of the Year of Humanitarian Exchanges.
“Starting May 1, we will eliminate import duties on all goods from African countries. We believe that by reducing customs duties, we can promote trade growth and increase the well-being of the population,” the minister noted.
Wang Yi emphasized that the friendship between China and Africa, which has endured various trials over the past 70 years, will be utilized to support the recovery of the African economy through the opening of the Chinese market.
