One of the most significant infrastructure projects in the region is being implemented in Kyrgyzstan — the construction of the railway line "China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan." This was announced in an interview with the interstate television and radio company "Mir" by the Prime Minister Adylbek Kasymaliev.
He noted that this initiative will significantly accelerate the process of cargo delivery between the East and the West, reducing travel time by about a week. "If Peter the Great once opened a window to Europe, then with the help of this road we will be able to create new connections between the East and the West," emphasized Kasymaliev.
According to him, the total investment in the project amounts to 4.7 billion dollars. Of this amount, 50% is financed by the Chinese side, while Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan share the remaining 50% equally at 24.5% each. Given the challenging terrain and mountainous conditions, the project includes the construction of about 50 bridges and 29 tunnels, with a total road length of 305 kilometers, he added.
Kasymaliev also reported that last year active construction work began in Kyrgyzstan. More than 4,000 workers are involved in the project, along with 5,500 units of equipment. The first tunnel has already been opened in the Jalal-Abad region.
In addition, he noted that government agencies are creating all necessary conditions for the continuous execution of work and plan to complete the project by the end of 2030.
