From January to November 2025, average global temperatures were 1.48 degrees higher than pre-industrial levels. Similar anomalies were observed in 2023, which became the second hottest year after 2024.

World leaders have expressed their intention to limit the rise in global temperatures to within 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels by the end of the century. Scientists consider this value as an average over a thirty-year period, which gives hope for achieving the set goal, even despite the rise in temperatures in individual months and years, notes the Guardian.

According to Samantha Burgess, Deputy Director of Copernicus, in November 2025, the temperature exceeded the level by 1.54 degrees. It is expected that the three-year average for 2023-2025 will exceed 1.5 degrees for the first time.

Burgess also emphasized that high temperatures indicate the accelerating pace of climate change and called for a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions as the only way to slow further temperature increases.

The data from Copernicus is confirmed by an analysis from the World Meteorological Organization, which stated that the last 11 years, from 2015 to 2025, have been the warmest in the 176-year history of observations, with the last three years being the hottest.

According to the Paris Agreement signed in 2015, countries committed to keeping the global temperature within 1.5 degrees Celsius. This agreement established long-term goals that all states must follow to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
