“The choice in favor of public transport should be automatic”
In an interview, the mayor of Bishkek, Aibek Junushaliev, noted that after the completion of road repairs and the construction of interchanges in the city center, an increase in parking fees is planned.
According to him, “we are expanding the roads in accordance with the master plan, not to increase the number of cars. Many roads are already built up with houses that are beyond the red lines. In the future, it will be necessary to introduce restrictions. For example, the idea of restricting vehicle entry on even and odd days has faced criticism, and society will need time to adapt to such changes. Therefore, it will be necessary to raise the cost of parking in the central part of Bishkek. We must strive for the city’s residents to automatically choose public transport,” Junushaliev emphasized.
