The situation with traffic jams in Bishkek continues to be a relevant topic for discussion. In a podcast by the "Kabar" agency, the mayor of the capital, Aibek Junushaliev, shared his thoughts on how to solve this problem.
According to the mayor, there are over 460 thousand registered vehicles in Bishkek, which creates a significant burden on the infrastructure. Since 2024, active work has begun to improve the road situation; however, as the mayor noted, this is not enough—comprehensive solutions are needed.
He emphasized that road expansion is not just aimed at increasing capacity but is part of the implementation of the city's General Plan.
Aibek Junushaliev also noted that after the completion of the repair and construction of interchanges, the city would have to impose certain restrictions. He mentioned the ambiguous public reaction to the idea of restricting traffic on even and odd days, emphasizing that the population would need time to adapt to such changes.
“In the future, it is necessary to increase parking fees in the city center. Residents should not face the choice of whether to drive or take the bus. The solution should be obvious: drive to the outskirts and use public transport in the center. Our goal is to make people choose public transport themselves,” concluded the mayor of Bishkek.
