According to the latest count, there are over 460,000 vehicles in Bishkek, and the existing infrastructure cannot handle such a flow. The mayor emphasized that work to eliminate this problem began back in 2024, but a comprehensive approach is necessary to achieve results.

The city leader added that the expansion of roadways should not merely focus on increasing the number of vehicles but should align with the city's master plan.
“Many streets are built up with houses that extend beyond the red lines. We are restoring the normative appearance of the streets,” explained Aibek Junushaliev.
He also noted that after the completion of road repairs and the construction of interchanges, the capital will need to implement certain restrictions. The mayor reminded of the negative reaction caused by the proposal to ban traffic on even and odd days, stating that society will need time to adapt to such changes.
“In the future, it will be necessary to increase parking fees in the central part of Bishkek. Residents should not have to choose between driving a car or using public transport. It should be obvious: to the outskirts by car, and through the center by bus. We must make the choice in favor of public transport a natural one,” the mayor concluded.
