At a recent press conference at the "Kabar" agency, the chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Kyrgyzstan (FTUK), Muradil Jumadilde uulu, emphasized that young people are often uninformed about their labor rights and the significance of trade unions.
In response, the FTUK, together with the Commissioner for Children's Rights under the President of Kyrgyzstan, initiated open lessons titled "My Labor Rights," which were held in various schools across the country.
"17,000 students from grades 9-11 participated in these lessons. We chose this age group because they are studying today, will be students tomorrow, and workers the day after. Knowing their labor rights is extremely important for each of them," he noted.
Muradil Jumadilde uulu added that the main goal of these lessons is to familiarize children with labor legislation and the importance of having an official employment contract. He cited an example of a woman who approached them with her 17-year-old daughter, who suffered a serious injury at work in a café and lost three fingers. Since she did not have an employment contract, they were unable to help her. "We consider it extremely important to educate young people about the basics of labor law in advance," he concluded.
