"Like it or not, we cannot avoid this step."
The mayor of Kyrgyzstan's capital, Aibek Junushaliev, announced a potential increase in public transport fares.
He noted that this measure is necessary to increase the salaries of bus drivers and maintain the vehicles in good condition.
"Like it or not, we cannot avoid this step. Proposals to raise fares have been made for a long time, and I asked them to work on it further. We need to revise the fares so that city residents start using cashless payments. This will help comply with traffic rules, drivers will be less distracted, and passengers will become more disciplined. Many problems will be solved, and the budget will become more transparent," the mayor believes.
