The State National Russian Drama Theater named after Ch. Aitmatov will open its 80th theater season on September 27 with the premiere of the play "The Dowry." This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Culture.
"The Dowry" is one of the most famous works of world drama. This play was written by A.N. Ostrovsky in 1878 during the later period of his creativity.
According to director Tatiana Zakharova, "The Dowry" is a parable about the spiritually impoverished. The plot of the drama is quite simple and well-known. However, as in any classical work, the plot is merely a framework, a shell. The soul of the play lies in the depth of the characters and the relationships between the heroes. It is this psychological depth that has determined the staging of the play in the genre of tragic farce.
In the director's opinion, the tragic elements in the play often coexist with farcical situations characteristic of human life.
"The Dowry" is a play about whether a person can survive in the modern world without making any deals with their conscience. One hopes that after watching the performance, each viewer will find their own answer to this question.
